Landscape Planning
An understanding derived from time spent as an undergraduate in Cyprus.
Understanding nature
I started thinking about the relationship between buildings and landscape when spending undergraduate time recording how the earth brick buildings of the Akamas Peninsula of rural West Cyprus, were slowly falling back to nature in a way that nature intended. There was no toxic residue and the methodology in making them allowed for gentle inhabitation of Earth.
I think that’s maybe a true representation of Sustainability.
In drawing Landscape that early observation stays at the forefront of my mind and constantly ask how does the architecture co exist with nature.

Architecture is landscape
Or as our dear Scots literary nature prophet - Kenneth White once wrote in a book for me. “ Landscape … Mindscape….Ken “
Put another way:
“In an organic architecture the ground itself predetermines all features; the
climate modifies them, available means limit them, function shapes them.
Like agriculture, architecture is a modification of the natural order and amidst
that the continued existence of the wayside flower is no less important than
technical innovation.”
